TEACHER OF THE MONTH

2025 Saginaw Valley League Teacher of the Year for Midland High School: Ryan Wontorcik
Mr. Ryan Wontorcik
World History & IB History of the Americas | Midland High School
Inspiring Curiosity, Confidence, and Connection
This month, we’re proud to spotlight Mr. Ryan Wontorcik, Midland High School’s 2025 Saginaw Valley League Teacher of the Year — an educator whose classroom has become a space where history comes alive and students feel seen, valued, and inspired to learn.
Ryan began his teaching career with Midland Public Schools in 2016, teaching at both Northeast Middle School and Midland High before moving to Midland High full-time in 2019. Today, he teaches World History and IB History of the Americas and played a key role in developing the school’s innovative Blended Modern Issues course.
But Ryan’s influence stretches well beyond academics. He’s been a track coach, a class adviser for the graduating class of 2020 and the incoming class of 2028, and a consistent source of encouragement for students navigating both high school and life.
Students describe him as uplifting, funny, and deeply dedicated:
“Mr. Wontorcik creates an environment that every single student feels comfortable in. He keeps the energy positive and light.”
“He’s a silly guy — he never fails to make others laugh. His lessons stick because he makes learning fun.”
“He’s the ultimate Chemic.”
Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies education from Saginaw Valley State University and a master’s degree in technology learning systems and design, blending his love for history with modern approaches to teaching and engagement.
The Saginaw Valley League Teacher of the Year award recognizes excellence across member high schools, celebrating educators who embody leadership, innovation, and heart — all traits Ryan models daily.
Congratulations, Mr. Wontorcik, and thank you for inspiring Midland’s next generation to think deeply, live curiously, and believe in themselves!
