NEW BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Chick-fil-A Coming To Bangor Township
Big news is buzzing in Bangor Township—Chick-fil-A is officially bringing its first restaurant to the Bay City area in early 2026.
Construction is set to begin soon near the former Kmart store at Euclid Avenue and Wilder Road, with doors expected to open in about six months, pending any delays. While the franchisee behind the new location has not yet been announced, the restaurant is projected to create 80 to 120 new jobs for the community.
This marks the third Chick-fil-A in Mid-Michigan, following successful openings in Flint Township (September 2023) and Saginaw Township (February 2025). Known for its customer service and signature chicken sandwiches, Chick-fil-A continues its rapid Michigan expansion, with plans for 25 to 30 additional locations statewide by 2030.
For Bay City residents, the arrival means more than just waffle fries and chicken nuggets—it’s a sign of growth and opportunity. The new restaurant is expected to become a busy gathering spot for families, commuters, and college students alike.

Mrs. Tiffany Green
Third-Grade Teacher, K.C. Ling Elementary | Hemlock Public School District
This month, we celebrate Tiffany Green, who was recently named Educator of the Year by the Hemlock Business Association.
A proud Hemlock graduate herself, Tiffany has been teaching at K.C. Ling Elementary since 1999. For more than two decades, she has poured her heart into shaping the lives of young learners in the same district where she once sat as a student. Her story is a reminder of the lasting connections between education, community, and home.
Known for her compassionate teaching style and creative approach, Tiffany fosters a classroom where students feel both challenged and supported. She emphasizes responsibility, empathy, and citizenship alongside academics—helping children grow into well-rounded individuals prepared for life beyond the classroom.
Superintendent Dr. Don Killingbeck praises her as “the kind of teacher every child deserves—compassionate, creative, and deeply invested in student success.”
Her principal, Lori Gensch, describes her as “an exceptional educator whose quiet leadership and dedication inspire both students and staff alike.”

For the Hemlock community, Tiffany’s recognition is about more than awards—it’s a testament to the influence of a teacher who consistently goes above and beyond for her students and neighbors.
Congratulations, Tiffany, on this well-deserved honor, and thank you for showing Mid-Michigan what it means to teach with heart.
GOOD NEWS
Micah 6:8, NIV
8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
God’s love for us is not rooted in performance.
He does not love you for what you can do for Him. He loves you because of who you are. You were created in His image, designed for His glory, and nothing you can accomplish will make Him love you more or less.
Micah 6:8 gives us one of the clearest pictures of what the Lord desires from His people. It isn’t endless striving, rule-keeping, or performance.
Instead, it’s three simple but life-changing calls:
Act justly — Live with integrity, treating others fairly in every area of life.
Love mercy — Extend grace and compassion freely, just as God Himself does for us.
Walk humbly with your God — Recognize that we are not the center; He is. Our daily walk is about dependence, not achievement.
The beauty of this verse is in its simplicity: you were not made to perform for God—you were made to walk with Him. His love is unchanging, steady, and personal. And as you act with justice, love mercy, and walk humbly, you reflect the image of the One who made you.
You don’t have to earn His love—you already have it provided you believe in your heart and declare with your mouth “Jesus Is Lord”.

Cam’s Brick Oven
Football season is here, and Cam’s Brick Oven in St. Charles is kicking things off with a fan favorite—the Dan Campbell Burger, inspired by Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell himself.
This towering creation isn’t just a meal—it’s a challenge.
Featuring two half-pound patties stacked high with mozzarella sticks, smoked brisket, and all the fixings, the burger is as bold and unapologetic as the coach it honors. It first made its debut during last season’s playoff run and has now returned just in time for the Lions’ 2025 campaign.
Kitchen manager and chef Chris Palmer says bringing it back was a no-brainer: “It’s fun for the restaurant, and we all love Coach Campbell.” And with the Lions entering the season full of energy and expectation, fans have one more reason to gather, cheer, and eat big.
Whether you’re heading out for game day with friends or just looking for a burger that matches your appetite, the Dan Campbell Burger is available throughout the season—pair it with one of Cam’s wood-fired pizzas or craft brews for the ultimate Lions watch party experience.

THIS MONTH IN HISTORY

The Great Thumb Fire 1881
The Thumb Fire of 1881
September 5th, 1881
On September 5, 1881, Michigan’s Thumb region was devastated by one of the most destructive wildfires in state history. Known as the Great Thumb Fire, the blaze consumed over a million acres in less than 24 hours, fueled by drought, intense heat, and hurricane-force winds.
The fire ravaged Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, and Lapeer counties, destroying entire towns and leaving a path of devastation. In total, 282 lives were lost, and more than 14,000 people were left dependent on public aid. Over 2,000 homes, barns, and schools were reduced to ashes.
The fire’s effects were felt far beyond Michigan. Soot and ash rose so high into the atmosphere that sunlight dimmed across the eastern United States. In cities throughout New England, the sky turned an eerie yellow, casting strange glows on buildings and vegetation. The day became known as “Yellow Tuesday” for its unsettling appearance.
Amid the tragedy, there was also a milestone in American history: the American Red Cross, founded just that year by Clara Barton, mounted its first official disaster relief response in Michigan. The organization provided money, clothes, and supplies to thousands of displaced families, beginning a legacy of emergency aid that continues to this day.
The Thumb Fire reshaped not only the land but also the way Michigan approached forest management and fire protection. Out of its ashes grew stronger systems of conservation, firefighting, and community resilience.
Remembering September 1881 reminds us of both the fragility of our landscapes and the strength of neighbors helping neighbors in times of crisis.
